The 1971 NGC IKE is pretty cool because that year was horrible for IKES.

I see some great coins. Thanks for sharing. After reading this post, I dug out two brown box Ikes. A little history, when I got married I found out my wife had coins. So I got a wonderful wife and silver coins too. How great is that? These are her coins but I'm keeping my eye on them.   |

Was looking through a box of coins my late father left me and found these Ikes. 1 1971-S 2 1972-P 1 Bicentennial Variety 2 1 1978-P In 1971, were all Ikes minted at SF 40% silver clad?   Edited by Kehinnc

Awesome pics Darth..you know, I'd say about 1/1,000 of 1% of the coin collector's would even know what a "Proof Planchet
' IKE is all about...only IKE collector's really know the incredible look in hand of this rarity. These, back in the day when all the IKE group guys were chatting together on the IKE Forum, were beloved most by Rob Ezerman....he just went Sxxxxx crazy over these, and, did extensive work on the production numbers. (All in the original big IKE Book).
Now, when you get this coin in hand, you KNOW right away what it is.
Add an FEV to a Proof Planchet, and, basically IKE heaven.
Now, I need to dig my couple hundred pounds of of the safe, and look again. Remember, there are a FEW 1972's PP's out there also!!

Oh crap!
That's 1 1971-S, not 1976-S.
For 1971, all SF minted coins are silver clad based on my research.

Now, when you get this coin in hand, you KNOW right away what it is. Absolutely TRUE. These jump right out at ya once you know how to spot them. I received the 71-D FEV proof planchet Ike today. I took additional photos, both in the 2X2 and loose. I must say that the reflectivity of this piece is incredibly intense, much more so than the other 3 in my collection. It's on the next level in terms of proof-like appearance.     |

I mentioned the "other 3" in my collection. Turns out, I had one all along in my registry set (PCGS MS65 CAC). LOL. Seriously, I got it out of my off-site safe today at lunch and snapped some pics....    This one appears more satiny than the FEV (probably struck later), and it's a true GEM. Looking at it now, I can't see how it didn't at least manage a 66. But hey, even CAC believes its solid for the 65 grade. Too bad it didn't get a gold bean. Back when I first acquired this coin I didn't know that PP Ikes for 1971-D even existed. I just recall thinking and even sharing on CCF how brilliant and sparkly the coin appeared- like a super lustrous silver issue. Again, it just looked completely different from all the other CuNi clad coins in my set. I assumed it must have been one of the first of this issue struck to have such an appearance. Now, knowing about this variety, it makes more sense. @ilikeikes - for 1972, does the PP variety exist only for Denver issues or for Philly as well? Edited by Darth Morgan
