Chuck, I would say that you have a winner there The marker that I look for in the Partial Peg Leg Proofs Is the weakness of the "O" of GOD 11:00 thinness and 8:00 it is like the frost is gone in just that spot. Picture number 2 shows it the clearest. Congratulations And Happy Easter Terry

Combed the local banks this morning looking for Ikes. No joy. One teller told me, "Yes, we had some of those, but someone already bought them all" Bummer! Day late and an Ike dollar short. I have a coin local dealer I could go to, but I was hoping to buy some for face. Looking for nice examples of 71-72 P&D.

Well the 1971-D Ike came in the mail today and it turns out that it is not a 71-D FEV. But the good news is that it did turn out that upon closer inspection of the mint mark that it is a 1971-D D/D RPM. Which I have had a very hard time coming across these. I have a few that are a maybe, But this one is the first YeeHa I have one! to join the collection But with stats like this on the variety. 1971-D/D WRPM-001----------------------9 Coins-R-8 1971 D/D WRPM-004----------------------3 Coins-R-9 New Statistics from Ike dollar Double Die Site Link: http://www.ikedollardoubledie.com/rpms.phpI am ecstatic to have finally found one. The split in the upper left corner of the "D" jumps right out at me under a loupe. I am not sure which on it is yet. RPM 1 or RPM 4 I will have to compare them with the ones owned by Brian Vaile the discoverer of the 71-D RPM's Terry

I recently went through the (16) 1972-P Ikes looking for the three varieties and found..
Type 1 = 3 Type 2 = 1 Type 3 = 12
[If this is of interest to anyone for statistical purposes :)]

Terry: I re-read the article from April 2008 written by Rob et al on the Ike Group and checked out the 9 for a open loop- here are 2 pic's of the 9, clearly visible open loop. Definitely a 1971S Partial Peg leg Proof! Thanks again for the help! Chuck.

In 1980, we were paying $40 per for 74s browns and getting $47.50 on the left coast. The weekly wipe greysheet never broke $20. I asked my buyer why they stopped.
"Do you have any idea how much space 2000 brown packs take up?"

If Silver keeps going the way it is we may see those prices again for 40% Ikes I wonder how many will get melted down this time around. Back in 80, 1 local coin shop here I used to hang at a couple of days a week would get them in by the moving box full and immediately ship them off to be melted.

Mach1 (and anyone else this applies to)
Spend/tip with at least those two cruddy Ikes. They'll never have collector value in that condition, and if they get someone to start collecting, they may become the buyer when you want to sell. Think of it as an investment in the future of the hobby.

Indeed, those two Ikes are pretty crappy-looking. They're both '72's. They came from the wife's family collection, and I can't even begin to guess how they got so ugly. Spending them sounds like a good idea. :)

I should not type and talk to people at the same time. I always end up messing up. What I meant in the phrase "Those High Prices" was back then they were going Much Much higher than the normal price back then. leading to a big melt in Ike's around here.
Thank You for pointing out my error Big Fred I would not want any one new to the hobby to think they went that high for melt back then.
