Sorry if this is old news, but I just found out today: TCF's free checking accounts have been phased out and they're now charging a $9.95 a month maintenance fee unless you carry a $500 balance (or $2500 if combined with savings) or have direct deposit set up. I just use them as my dump bank because they all have coin counters in the lobbies - guess I'll have to tie $500 just to continue to dump there or find another bank!

I was going to lock this as off-topic until you mentioned "dump bank."

Drive on.

Wait they have a $10 maintenance fee on you checking unless you keep $500 in it. But if you also have a savings account with them you have to have $2500 to avoid the fee? Sounds to me like if I had a checking and savings account with them I'd close my Savings account.

I think it means that if you had less than 500 dollars in your checking account, you could put money in from your savings account, but that means the two accounts would have to total 2500 dollars? So if you had 400 dollars, you could put 100 in from savings to make it to 500. I think the 2500 is to prevent people from easily qualifying on the checking account.

Either way they're just trying to bleed more money out of those with accounts.

Just dump harder and more often. Make them earn their fees.

Glue all your dump coins together and bring them in.

I'm just gonna dump as much coin there as I can. Eventually they'll start charging to use the machines and when that happens, I'm outta there. The bank is pretty convenient for me, they're open until 7 every night and they have hours on Sunday too so I'd hate to have to give up the account.
