So I snapped up an ANACS AU-55 details 1809 half dollar with the XXX edge for $700. It had a 'cleaned' designation but the seller insisted that it was only wiped in one small spot (according to two supposed 'dealers') and that both had offered him $750. If the coin was like that, it would have been a great deal. I know that this is basically gambling (the pictures were terrible) but I have gotten deals this way before. However, it was not.

I received the coin, took one look at this atrocity, and laughed. It was wiped so hard on the reverse that I was surprised it wasn't slabbed 'polished'. It was also wiped on the obverse and cleaned on the obverse as well. I thought "hey, no reasonable dealer is gonna offer $750 for this" but you never know, so I contacted the guy a few times. He completely ignored me, and I know this because when the coin arrived (I had it sent with signature confirmation) he refunded me almost immediately. We had also conversed BEFORE the auction a bit so I am sure of this. So I'm thinking the guy was lying, thinking he could cheat a newbie ebayer. I am trying to get my return shipping back, and I think thats fair because the coin was SO different than the description. I doubt I'll get it back and I will probably end up leaving a negative.....I hate jerks.

sorry to hear about that, there should be some type of repercussions for shiesty people who have no regard for others, although I'm sure karma will take it turn in all this.

Got this response:

Sorry .I thought it was described perfectly. You are entitled to your opinion. But as I stated you must pay return shipping!Actually I think you gotta be kidding!I thought I was being generous without charging you my shipping as is customary.and also you returned the quarter which was separate and was not refundable.

I had bought a bullion quarter off him for the combined shipping discount, just threw it in because I was returning the half, lol
