The latest issue of Canadian Coin News (March 16) has a nice article with pictures on a newly discovered variey of the 1974 Dollar to go with the many Yoke varietys already known. This variety involves the roof of the house with the door. Time to pull the coin out of the vault and compare!

I always found this site to be the best out there for the previous know varieties....

If you are referring to VCR #17, I discovered that variety while going through some mint state rolls. I have also submitted another coin to Ken, that will hopefully be VCR #18.

chadcoins (or anyone else), any idea how scarce VCR #16 is? If you had to put a price on it (to buy or sell) what would it be? I have a chance to buy one, and want to offer a fair price (not too little, but not too much).

Every time I see a 1974 I study it carefully. I have not even seen any varieties so I think they are all rare.

I looked at the 1974 Double Yoke varieties at Ken Potter's Website.... are they all nickel dollars, or are some of them the silver commemmoratives. I didn't find that it was immediately obvious.

They are all nickel dollars, business strikes, proof-like strikes and specimen strikes. I don't know of any silver dollar varieties from 1974 (other than Machine Doubling damage).

Thanks SPP, I was looking at an encapsulated silver commemmerative that I have and there are a several things of interest in the area... minor doubling of yoke to the east, a curved line on the top roof, and a couple of small intrusions from the building on the left.... Unfortunately, my scanner is not up to that detail, so I can't post a picture.... If I make it to the Brampton show in December, I will bring it.

The nickel dollar series looks very interesting.. a closed series that only spans twenty years and has quite a few varieties. The George VI Fifty Cent series is slowing down now as I have only come up with a couple of new repunches in the last two years. With the price of silver steadily climbing, I am looking for another series to collect.
