Bought these four coins at a car boot yesterday for 50p, not in the best of condition but I would be grateful if anyone could tell me a little bit more about them.

(if you want close ups of an idervidual coin let me know)

Thanks,
Will

For 50p you cant go wrong

The first coin I'm still thinking about - having trouble working out the orientation of the reverse, if you have any ideas let us know.

The second coin is a 'fallen horseman' type, the reverse legend should be FEL TEMP REPARATIO and the picture is of a fallen horseman being speared. Although I cant see much on the legend you may be able to see more in hand and it helps that fallen horses were only minted for the following emperors:

Constantius II
Constantius Gallus
Julian II
Constans
Magnentius (very small amount)

Also if you can see the mint mark it could help. This page may also help:

The 3rd and 4th I cant really see anything. You may be able to see more with those coins in hand but a picture ID will be difficult. One thought I did have for the 4th is that it could be a Constantinopolis city commemorative. Here is a link that could help:

These dont usually have text on the reverse though, apart from the mint mark so certainly not 100% sure.

Got the 1st one - rotated the reverse picture 180os and it too is a fallen horseman.

Unknown-Ancient-Coins?-|-Late-Roman-Bronzes

It also has 'M' in the left field. Ran this through Helveticas tables and it could only have been from Julian II or Constantinus.

I think I can make out LIAN on the legend in the correct position so I think its a Julian II.

DN IVLIAN-VS NOB C/CAES
FEL TEMP-REPARATIO

Not had much luck with the mint mark - I would guess maybe Delta SIS?

This would fit with the Emperor and the 'M' and if correct would mean it was minted in Siscia between 370 and 382.

You could well be right about the 4th one - If you are its a SECVRITAS REIPVBLICAE coin.

Unfortunately these were minted by about 15 different emperors - all the busts of which look very alike so it would be very difficult to ID it 100% without a clear legend.
