Kreuzer? Wouldn't that be more likely Denar or Denier ?

"Kreuzer" is a German denomination, while "denier" is a French one. While coins of the Bishopric of Strasbourg are sometimes classified as "French states" because most of the territory it controlled is currently in France, at the time this coin was issued, the area was within the German sphere of influence. Strasbourg itself was a Free City of the Holy Roman (German) Empire, and the Bishopric of Strasbourg (which owned most of the land surrounding the city) as well as the nearby states of Alsace and Lorraine, owed fealty to the German emperor and not the French king.

After the French invaded and occupied the entire Alsace-Lorraine area in 1634 (marking the beginnings of French-German emnity which culminated in World War II), deniers were struck there. But the coins from before this time are considered "kreuzers". In the Krause catalogues it's listed under German States.
