In a stack of 1K in ones what do you folks average? Mine's about 2, with 2003 out numbering them all. Thanks

Last month was 1-2 in a strap, in one I had found 4(alot of older notes from 60's-80's in great shape). This past month I've hit a dry spot and have only found about 6 in 3,500(most notes from 03-06). Sometimes I felt like I was looking through the same strap twice(even though they were being deposited and withdrawn from diff banks in diff counties).

I would say 1 to 2 every strap with 2003a Philly, New York, and Atlanta being the most common for me.

Bvalania I make sure the tellers do not give me back my searched stacks and I also have started ordering from 3 diff banks. At one bank the teller ships out all incoming $1 notes but keeps the local deposits for me. I am amazed at the number of notes the banks run through on a daily basis. One bank last week had 10K in recycled fed straps and the next day they only had 500 left. Mon to Wed seem to be the best search days for me. I think this has to do with the weekend sales / traffic trends etc.  Other than the Barr star from last night the oldest one I have is a 99. I would like to find a few earlier ones. Pardon me, I too run into 2003A the most. I had miss typed as 2003. Peace |

I agree with the Mon-Wed idea. In addition to what you said it's always a good idea to find which branches your local churches use. I find alot of older bills in those branches.

FWIW, If you look at the BEP data reports you will notice that higher denomination stars are being printed more often than $1 bill (page back there is discussion about $100 note). Also I found it interesting that prior to 95 (I think) they were printing close 100 mil $1 stars and now they are printing around 30 mil $1 stars annually. This MAY bode well for the $1 stars down the road. Time will tell.

FWIW - This week's fed straps so far have been decent as I came across quite a few stars averaging around 6 notes per 1k (mainly 03A and 06). I was happy to find these
2 - 01
3 - 99
1 - 95
1 - 81
1 - 77
Also this week's straps have had about 8 notes so far prior to 1977 (dates below) of which 5 of them crisp and clean. Straps were dated Feb 2010. Normally I find one in 2 straps.
63, (2) 63A, 69, 69B, 74, 77, 77A

I guess my earlier post about 1 * in 500 notes searched is about average. By the way, it was so tattered I kicked it back into the wild for others to find.

im new to note searching, what should I be looking for besides stars, and do they have any premium?
out of 1K today I pulled 3 star notes all 03's
03- dallas
03- Richmond
03A Atlanta
and a 1965B Barr note.
Are these worth keeping/selling/trading as I collect halves, only did this b/c I was bored

I would hang onto to the barr note. Although these were hoarded back in the day it's an old note. As per the stars it's your choice.

The stars value is based on the number of notes printed per run and hopefully someone with more knowledge chimes in and answers your question.
As per me I hang onto anything that is old and or is in good condition.

How do you guys go about searching the notes? Do you just go to the bank and say "hey, can I look through your notes for ones with stars? you can have my money if I can have the star ones"
and what is a Barr note? Also, how exactly do you know where it came from? I have a lot of bills, and would like to know where they are from.

Just got to the bank and ask for stacks of $1s. Or if you have a good relation with a bank, you might be able to ask them to look their notes for you. The Barr note is a $1 issued during Joseph Barr's 30 or so day term as the Sec of the Treas. Because these notes were issued for only a short time and all of them were $1s which didn't have a long life expectancy, most Barr notes are rare. ... from Wikipedia... pretty much sums it up Quote:

FWIW, I am have been hanging onto stars that are in decent condition regardless of run size. See "Fcrazo"s post under "older $20/$100 US Notes" as I too see that trend.
Wd, that's a nice stack you have there. I found a barr star a while back in beat up condition which is worth more than the unc barr. The issue with the barr's is that back in the day everyone had a heads up on the situation and loaded up. Also one sleepy little town I go to every other week and get ones from always has 2 to 3 barrs in decent condition (better than 03's which you run into) for every 2k.
