I recently acquired this 1864 2 Cent Piece and noticed what I believe to be a Cracked Die. It runs from just below the 1 in 1864 on an angle upward through the bottom of the left arrow and into the lower bunch of leaves. There it splits off in two directions. One goes about 45 degrees down and left to the edge. The other continues along the original path up to the middle ouside edge. From that spot it runs up and through the N and onder GOD in IN GOD WE TRUST. All of this is not evident in the pics but the lower part of it I described in the beginning is. What do you think?

Pictures would be very helpful Die cracks are common on 2 Cent coins especially the 1864. (Need to change your title) They may also be used to aid in the identification of certain varieties of re-punched dates and double dies.

OK I see you added pics. Yes that's a typical die crack, check the rev and see if the D of United is missing the upper serif..

The reverse of the coin is free of any issues that I can see. I am wondering if it would be worth sending this coin to PCGS. I am working on a set of 2 cent pieces and have slabbed 2 so far. what do you think, And would I need to send it in as an error coin?

From the little I can see in the Picture it would grade around VF would need to see better pictures of both sides before I could give you a more informed reply.

Its not an error coin assuch Cracked dies are fairly normal for this series. I think unless the picture is unrepresentative of the whole coin you are wasting money having it slabbed.

Actually the pic is a scan and it isn.t representative of the coin. I just joined this site. Could you tell me how you guys are posting such large high resolution pics. For instance, the high resolution scans I have of the coin which are much better could not be uploaded due to too large a file size. How do you do it!?

I think it's a large motto 1864 and not worth the expense of slabbing.

A small motto 1864 would be worth slabbing.

May you find one soon !!

Nice coin.
