1847 Liberty Seated-Value?

TD, as in slabbing you mean a problem-free holder? I figured that with coins like this that it's pretty much a given they have been cleaned sometime in the past. Would the TPG's be more lenient since the cleaning is not that noticeable? I guess I could leave it on a windowsill to tone but beware...... I'll be waiting by the windowsill with an axe until the coin tones to my liking.

I'd go AU 55, tops..it has a lot of circulation dings on it...there is such a thing as AU 53.

Inflated PCGS price list lists XF40 at $620 and AU55 at $1250.


I think you got it for a pretty good price...cleaned or not.

There are the same coins on ebay,

- certified NCS AU, cleaned improperly BIN $875
- XF for BIN $625
- "Strong XF look" BIN $490
- AU ++ BIN $1800

So, all that said...if you won it bidding at auction, you're a winner.
If you bought it now, you got the best relative bang for your buck.

The first set of photos really exaggerate the dings and scuffs. I did buy it at auction; Easter morning while the majority of people were at church, and away from their computer. I think AU-53 is too low because there is very little- if no wear that I can see( I don't have the coin yet). Due to cleaning, I think that a grade of AU-55 at the lowest with a shot at
AU-58 is possible. He'll probably be going in for grading with my 1839 Half Dime and a few others.
