Hey coolg,
Buffalo nickels in general are hard to get in high grade since they wear pretty quickly. I though enjoy
Buffalo nickels for their design and American type design on them.
By the way what got you so interested in
Buffalo nickels in the first place?
I hope it wasn't me or Crystalk who only talk about the almighty
Buffalo nickel or gold Buffalo or the silver Buffalo dollar.
But if I were you I'll first start a
Jefferson nickel collection
Or if you want just put a thread in the buying or trading forums and make a thread that you are interested about
Buffalo nickels and you are willing to buy or trade for some hey you never know.
Oh ya here is some history about the almight nickel
Weight: 5 grams
Diameter: 21.2 mm
Edge: Plain
Composition: 75% copper, 25% nickel
Designer: James Earl Frasier
The
Buffalo nickel was first introduced in 1913 and was made every year through 1938 except for the years 1922, 1932 and 1933. Coins were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints and before the series ended over 1.2 billion pieces were made. These coins also called Indian head nickels had two types in their first year of issue. The first showed the buffalo on a mound, on the second, the base was redesigned to a thin line. Because the mound above the date didn't really help the date and the date was easily worn of the coin. And did you know the type two didn't really help etheir it just improved the protection by a smigde
Frasier designed this piece employing three different Indians as models.( I cant remeber the names but one is Mooon stone Ill look through my notes for the names) His initial, "F," is beneath the date. The buffalo was modeled after Black Diamond" in the New York Zoological Gardens. But it was changed due the law that a coin design must be changed after 25 years in service. (Hey what ever happened to that law anyway?)
