some very interesting comments, I love this forum.
I did and do not remember the Boston Tea Party, you are right to say, I do remember learning about it and what is the difference between taxes being raised, with out the peoples input, taxation without representation, and the broken government we have today who decide to raise our taxes at their will and well, it is done. Has anyone in N Y re-registered a vehicle, or re-newed your license lately, you will see what I mean, the "fees" have tripled and this is one of my points of taxation without accountable representation. People need to be IMO, more aware of daily events and remember History has, can, and will repeat it self.
I do not want to sound like a preacher, but these are things we ALL see going on and IMO, most are to busy trying to make a living, to be more involved, except at election time.
As for the comment above " Puerto Ricans are just as much Americans and US citizens as those of us from the states. The way you are presenting this makes it sound like you are reacting the same as if Mexico or China were getting these coins first. Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, etc. are America and any suggestion they are not is ridiculous."
I am not and did not suggest any such thing about the way I presented my opinion on this topic, I simply meant I do not see why these places receive the newer coinage, while we here on the mainland are told there is far to much coinage on the streets. I would think and this is my contention that if we here in the states are told this, why do we not send some of this abundant older coinage over to them as it would seem to be the right thing to do being this is what we are being told here. I do not and would not suggest any thing like you have inferred.
I would also like to address the "no we don't " comment, I do not have to have the newer coinage in a hurry, but I have been collecting since 1963 and for the most part of this time have been able to acquire most any coinage in B you condition, from the banks or where ever, and have seen this go to the wayside, just my opinion, also I do not want to collect most new coins from circulation, I prefer nice mint state B you coins, I place more than my share from our you S mint and other mints in the world, again, just my opinion and did not mean to infer or suggest anything, nor intend to insult or upset anyone,!!!

Quote: ...what is the difference between taxes being raised, with out the peoples input, taxation without representation, and the broken government we have today who decide to raise our taxes at their will and well, it is done. The difference is easy. Taxes are not raised without the people's input. Even if you aren't asked directly you have the power through referendum (in most states) and the ballot box (in all states). If you pay attention to what is going on, form, or join, a group of like-minded citizens, and threaten to not vote (or back openly an alternate candidate) at election time... politicians will listen. Thus your input is heard. Taxation without representation would be the same as it was before. No elected Representatives at all, and the federal/state government deciding what you will pay without vote. All taxes are voted upon in this country (though not in a general election). Our broken government can be fixed. We need to seek out the best people for the job of representing our issues in congress and the senate. We need to impress upon them the need for them to accurately represent us. We need to vote out (or recall) those elected officials that do us harm. The backbone of all of the actions we need is information. Arm yourself with information and then act.

Coreti, YOU WROTE, " Taxes are not raised without the people's input." I would ask is this a joke, are you serious, most if not all tax increases are voted in through congress. Not we the people! I am not a political master but I do know no one has asked me or any one I know if it would be o k to raise this tax or that tax. My point and only my point, yes we can have a referendum, but that is AFTER the fact. I simply asked why coinage was sent to a certain territory before other areas of the country receive them. Thank you for your opinions you also state," If you pay attention to what is going on, form, or join, a group of like-minded citizens," etc, I am not sure if you are addressing me or making a general statement, either way, I would appreciate opinions based on the original topic, please do not go political on me!NO insults intended.

No offense taken. just one last thing on politics before I renew my point on the original topic. In my post, I think that you neglected to read Quote: Even if you aren't asked directly you have the power through referendum (in most states) and the ballot box (in all states). & threaten to not vote (or back openly an alternate candidate) at election time... politicians will listen. Thus your input is heard.
You are correct in your statement about referendums being after-the-fact, but it can get a tax repealed. However telling your elected official that if they vote in favor of a tax hike, you (and your organization, or group of friends)will in-turn, do everything in your power to make sure they do not get re-elected. Then the elected official will have your input before voting. I still think they are test runs, but I do like the point made about less coins being introduced in the form of circulation to military and vacation destinations.

Quote: What is, both locations have a massive amount of coins leaving the areas like puerto rico and military bases due to tourism and deployment. 300 points for me! Who brings coins to an island on a trip? Who has brought coins back!? Same goes for military bases. A valid explanation.
