I'm always finding 1964 nickels and I always keep them until I can look at each carefully. I've read that there are nickels that had PLURUBUS misspelled to PLURIDUS and those have been stamped over with the correct letter B.

I don't recall fenk. You will have to do a little bit of research or wait until some here more knowledgable can give us the facts.

I've had good luck finding silver in half dollar rolls. I'll have to ask them to order me a box. The last time I went in they said they could only give me 1 roll since they had a limited supply.

I'm in a silver drought. I do save the 1982 & 1983 nickels, dimes and quarters that are not too badly worn.

My bank hardly ever has any halves so I don't know what would happen If I looked through a thousand. Unless I could pull at a silver or 40% silver about every 4 to 5 rolls I'd probably get bord.

It's a lot of fun. I was thinking of asking my bank to order me a box, but I'm sure they'd want me to pay right up front, which'd suck. But you do find some very nice ones sometimes. I agree that the 1971's and 76's are pretty common, but I also get a lot of 1995's for some reason.

So, I pulled out everything that looked AU55+ Basically any coin that had extremely few scratch-marks I kept, as well as some of the years with low mintages...

I could not find a definitive site on Kennedy errors though. There were some wear dies on the 72 and 74D which kept the engraver's initials from striking on the reverse, and there was a DD obverse in 82 I think.

Finance aside, if you were going through 1000 Kennedies, what would you keep? Are the great condition ones really worth saving in the longrun?

I think the 1987's have a pretty low mintage, the 1999's have a relatively low mintage, and of course keep the silver.

I'd keep anything pre-1970. Also anything S mint. Only found 2 so far and it's a better feeling than finding silver. I haven't looked into the errors yet. Something I need to look into. I guess I always learn something from this forum. Thanks!

Thats becuase the only way to get 1987 is to break them out of mint set, and I wuold hoard any 1982,1983 I can get there might be another year out there cant think off hand that you have to bust out of mint sets. also any modern ones are hard to find

The Jefferson nickels in Question are 1964 D.. Breen #2758 and considered very scarce... And most of the 1964 P and d nickels were struck in 1965 using 1964 dated dies

Cool, thanks scoutjim! There were only 1.8 billion of those 1964-d nickels made...so that leaves a lot of hunting!

everyone thinks of them as a burden in the mainstream world of business, personally I think people whine to much. I have had to count the till in a cash register before so I have done it .. I alway found it to be neat to keep tarckt of all of the methods used for payment and on what.. I have even seen some commeratives and some dollar coins Like Ike and peace..and tons of SBA's of course
