I received as a gift a full 15-piece set of Beijing 2008 Olympics commemorative gold coins.

Can anyone verify these are not copies?
or if they are gold coins?
If so what would their value be?

Hi there, these are actually privately made commemorative tokens and not coins. They're supposed to come with a certificate of authenticity, and if it does contain any precious metals, it should say on the certificate. Otherwise, these are most likely gold-plated brass or bronze. As for value, I'd say it depends on who wants it, but I'd think less than $20 or even less than the sale price. There are just so many of these "commemoratives" floating around.

try to ask the one who gives the coins to you...

or try to bring it to your nearest gold buyer...if they want to buy it... its up to you...it they don't then you know its value...

Ok, thanks.

So you think there is little "numismatic value" and the only value would be the gold?

Is there a good gold buyer you can recommend? I'm afraid local shops might not give me the best rate.

I'd verify the content before I did anything, how much do they weigh? as stated, there's probably a lot of sets like this commemorating the Beijing Olympiad
