Soon enough we'll all just be using plastic anyway. The only thing I use actual paper money for is gas, collecting, and to get chips at the casino... The credit card/debit card is quicker, easier, and more convinient.

Unified currency? That's not necessary. One can just put microchips in the $100 bills to track stored wealth around the world.

He's rolling in his grave. I thought the recent notes were bad.
This one is worse. Wonder how much these are going to cost to print up ?

Hugemistake I think the inkwell makes perfect sense given there is a HUGE quill behind it and Franklin was one of the writers of the Declaration of Independence which is also on the note. I like the new 100 and I hope US currency continues to evolve into works of art like they used to be.

Now that I know it's an inkwell I can see how it fits with the quill in the background, but it's not something that I would identify easily. The problem with our currency, from an artistic standpoint, is that they are putting function over form, when both (in my opinion) should be given equal weight. They take the old design, slap on new features that often don't blend well at all. Also, our currency does not have a uniform design scheme like it did when all the notes were small-portraits (now those were terrible in terms of identification and anti-counterfeiting but they were beautiful, in this case, form over function).

As for the Monopoly comment, Monopoly money is printed with two inks: one color and black. This makes them look cheap. We could easily make beautiful banknotes that incorporate many different shades of the same color to increase discernability. Also, when we redesign banknotes, the redesigns should be released at the same time!

I would love to get my hands on the first issues in UNC with low serial numbers. Anybody know how this is possible?

I like it. I think the new series (5,10,20,50 and now 100) are an improvement over the bland green previously used. I have always thought that the U.S. notes are one of the most basic/bland/ un-exciting notes in the world.

Hear hear!

And for low serial notes, I think they're presented to special people or auctioned by the government. You need to know high people in high places. Otherwise, I think the lowest serial I've gotten from a first-day release was 005XXXXX
