So I purchased this lot for a hair over melt, really just for one coin. The 1927 "something" on the bottom row. It looks to be solid for VF and either a d or an s. I can't really tell. My 1927-d is in sad shape and would probably only grade AG at best; so this would make a great upgrade. I already have a nice F-15 27-s, but it wouldn't break my heart at all if that's what it turned out to be since that is a valuable coin at that grade. Anyways, I'll be happy either way; though I'm betting that it's a 27-d. The rest of the coins I will bundle up and resell eventually

I blew up the picture size and strengthened the contrast some. Opinions?

I looked at all of these lots this week too (most get overbid due to the type 1's). I remember this one because the coin with the magic marker stood out.

Tough to tell if that is an S or a D. Almost looks as if its an S (look at 7 o'clock position of the mark).

BUT - as you know, who knows what other date you'll land in one of these dateless lots!!
Rest in Peace

Yeah, the main reason I think it's a d is because of the mm size. The "d" seems to be a bit smaller than the "s", and the blurred mm looks small to me. A VF-20 27d is around $60-$70, where as the s is around $200-$300; so I think the odds also favor the d. We'll see though. This coin would be an upgrade either way. Here are pics of my 27s and 27d; and you can see that the d needs the upgrade much more seriously.

You're right though, there are a couple other worn pre-25 w mm coins that may have a stronger date in hand...so you never know what else might be in there.
