Last week I won an auction on ebay for 16 Indian Heads for 17.00.
The years I got were 1882,1887, 1894, 1896, 1897, 1898, 1899, 1900, 1901,1902, 1904, three 1905's, 1906 and a 1909. The 1894 is a double die year so maybe this week I will go to this coin shop guy with my dad and let him check it out.
My dad and I will try to put some pictures up later. My dad thinks the coins we got are F to VF and 2 of them show liberty in the headband.

Does anyone have a picture of the 1894/94 that you can post? Thank you

The 1894 is not a doubled die, it is a repunched date(RPD) and it is one of the most dramatic in the IHC series. See Rick Snow's site for pics.

Thanks for that pic biokemist, mercuryman is my son.

The coin we have has something going on between the 1.30 and 4.30 O'clock position (right side) on the 9 and on The 4 at the 12 O'clock position has similar thing going on away from the top of the 4 similar to the pic. BUT, we do not have the situation with 8 as in the pic you provided.

Unfortunately, I do not have a scanner and the camera just will not focus on the date. Thanks again. I will have the local coin shop owner take a look. Hopefully, no one has messed with / tried to alter this coin.

Peace

Today after school I went to the coin shop with my dad. He said the 1894 is worth about 25-30 dollars and was not worth doing the restoration as the coin is G. He said to keep it the way it was. I was also happy to hear that the 1909 is worth around $15.

Yes it really does appear to be a great deal. All for that price is really odd for ebay. Nice going.

Amazing deal, really. I stirred the ebay pot on Three Cents: an IHC 1909 and to LWCs, one 1909. I bid ten dollars for fun. The 3-coin lot eventually sold for over $50.

We also bid on a Wheat penny lot some time back for which I averaged 9 cents per wheat. In the wheat pile so far we have found 5 - 1909 (VF ++), 8 1914's (No D's) , 3 1915's, 1 each of 16 d & s (around 16 p's), 20 1917's (I have check these over) and 3 steels (p,d and s in XF++ closer to au). All the dates are there except the KEYS.

I have to re look at a lot of these when time permits as my son has already located to 2 1955's where the second 5 is doubled on the right side and the local coin shop owner confirmed it. But, he is saying it's only worth around $ 2 to 3 each and referred to them as the poor mans dd.

We are both happy as we got close to 250 wheat's pre 30's and the rest about evenly split pre and post steel. Also the coins are clean with only about 40 with the green stuff (across all dates in total).

Although I am new to this - IF you are patient and do your homework PRIOR to the auction then you know what a good price is and also be willing to pay a FAIR price to the seller without going over board.

To circle back - the remaining IHC's are probably worth $3/each or higher as is. Only one coin is totally wasted. On the pic we saw it looked like most (8) of the coins were wasted and I was only going after the 1909. I only wish I knew of a safe way to clean them without any harm.

Peace
