Hey everyone,
I've began to take interest into the chest of coinage I've had stashed away for years, I received it as a gift when I was very young. I want to begin researching these coins one at a time. Lots of work ahead of me! Can anybody shed a little light on a 1859 Large Canadian One Cent? It is in great condition, barely any signs of wear are present. I can't tell whether it is brass or not. Thank you for any feedback! Cheers!

Welcome Without a picture we can only guess ... assuming it's a common version with the narrow nine it can be worth 4-40 dollars in the various circulated grades. If it's an uncommon variety it can be worth quite a bit.

Thanks for the response, I greatly appreciate it. I will get a picture available. LOL I figured a picture would be appropriate, sorry about that. I remember reading somewhere that if the direction of the head is pointing into the opposite of the opposite side of the coin. It could be valuable. What is the significance of this? Could it be a flaw, or is it a part of the design for this particular coin? According to the Victoria Grading Guide, and viewing with great consideration, I believe it would fall under either AU-55/AU-50. I'm assuming lustre refers to the original visible metalic look of the coin when it was first created. I guess a form of glare factor. LOL

Hey! Thank you very much! This is exactly what I was looking for! A nice detailed history. This is intriguing. So many varieties! Thanks again everyone. I've taken some pictures, but the files are to large to upload. Any suggestions? It doesn't really showcase the shine factor I can see up close. Cheers Everyone, it's great to be aboard!

you need to crop the pics and "save as" file type: .jpg, playing with the jpeg resolution until your file is under 100 kb for uploading to this site. I use Irfanview for cropping (Edit/crop selection). Its free software: http://www.irfanview.com/to help with your pics you can check out this amazing thread: https://goccf.com/t/29441
