Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh. How do you do it!?!?
I need to focus on 2 MAYBE 3 sets/collections at a time, but constantly get tempted to buy X or Y, or pick up a lot of Z's.
I really need to focus on at least getting my SLQ collection down to the final big number 1916, and also on my recently started 1 of each denomination from 1868. Yet I got the itch and started Walking Liberty's. LOL.
As Captain Kirk would say..........MUST. FOCUS. MUST. RESIST.

Well, if you consider your set to be "all US coins" then you wouldn't have to worry about getting sidetracked. Every new addition is one more step towards completing the collection!

Look at it this way, sometimes it is good to step away from one series and look at another for a while.

And once I get my latest batch of Dansco's in....I'll be able to jump around like a two footed Billy goat in a field of Nanny's ! ... I can work on a different Dansco for every day of the week then ! ..... I just need to work out a very MINOR problem........ C.A.S.H. F.L.O.W. ..... I've got A LOT of work to do to be within my 30 year plan of completion !......

I've been able to concentrate on Indian cents for over 10 years now. I take big breaks sometimes but I focus on only Indians. There are so many varieties and they are somewhat cost prohibitive, especially being disabled and relying on social security. The set is still not done but I'm working on getting the last piece now, the 1909S. After getting it I'll spend my time upgrading. I do have many other coins that I've accumulated over my lifetime but Indians are my passion.

I collect coins from Earth. Though if there's credible proof of use as money, I'd collect coins from other planets, too. Can't get less focussed than that.

I like attractive U.S. and world coins that I can afford on a shoestring budget. Cost provides some focus here.

It's ok afcop, there are no rules. I have "set fever" every now and then, like you have noticed with my slqs; but I'm continually drawn back to type set collecting since I find that I look at that collection the most and derive the most pleasure from variety. I think some of us need variety to keep us interested.

The thing for you to try is to do what I do. For example I go to about 2 to 4 coin shows a Month. Prior to going to any coin show, I extract some cash from a bank for any possible purchases. I have a list of all the coins I need to fill empty slots in Albums, a possible price I am willing to pay for thoe coins. Another list of coins that should be replaced due to pooor conditions. Then I make another list of coins I'd like to have if I found one regardless of if I now presently collect them. Again, I add a possible price on that list of what I might pay. Then I go to a coin show, leave those lists at home, buy anything I want. So why focus on any particular coins.

It's easy-I focus on round coins.
