I just received a few Franklins in the mail that I bought online. One of them looks like it has a light coating of grease on it. It's not a real big deal but I was wondering if anyone has ever put a coin in a jewelry cleaning machine. I know you are never suppose to clean a coin but I thought I would ask the question anyhow. Would just soap and water be a option?

Wornslick,

That jewelry cleaner is probably "sonic" and is intended to free imbedded particles. Grease and oil would probably remain on the coin.

Hot soapy water (no scrubbing), rinse in distilled H2O and placed between folds of a towel and press (again no rubbing), should do it.

Thanks for the answer SeatedNut. Yes it is a "sonic" cleaner. Do I let the coins soak for awhile?

Don't use soap.

The best way to remove grease from a coin is to soak it in xylene.
