Where To Get Coin Date Established?

xponent of fear New Member United States 18 Posts	Posted 05/13/2010 2:41 pm I recently sent a coin to ANACS to get the date established but they sent it back and said it was illegible. Is there any company that has the adequate equipment to establish the date? The coin is not too bad of shape but I guess they did not want to spend a little effort for 15 bucks which they kept. wheatguy Pillar of the Community United States 1534 Posts	Posted 05/13/2010 9:25 pm Why are you trying to get the coin slabbed in the first place? It most likely is a 1997 due to the scarcity of the 1992 Close AM and even if it isn't the Close AM isn't worth that much in the grade the coin is in. There is no "special machine" that will say what date the coin is, if ANACS couldn't establish the date most likely the other TPG's won't either. Report this Post to the Staff

I had various people look at it without stating my opinion and the majority concluded its a 92. Report this Post to the Staff

I forgot about the 1992 Close AM's value and rarity, and for some reason figured you were talking about a 1999. If ANACS couldn't see the grade other TPG's most likely won't be able to find the date. Anything that might work in a similar way on a plated zinc cent would eat right through the copper plating and dissolve the zinc underneath.
