Well ..... this coin made it home again after the 'free' re-grade into the new holder.

Here is the result .... a new holder but the same grade .... PCGS MS67.

Absolutely-Amazing-Antietam---Home-Again!

I'm a little bummed .... was sure it would grade higher ..... but this is still the absolute finest Classic Commemorative I have ever had the pleasure of owning.

We can now answer this question ...

Quote:
when regrading do they use the old serial number or a new one?

Two different serial numbers indeed.

Thanks to all for the encouragement you gave me in this thread!

Interesting. So if this had been the single highest graded example, would the POP report now show another one exists, even though you have the only one? If so, that's not good.

My experience in this re-grade leads me to believe that PCGS has this issue covered Bobby.

The Population report still shows the same number of MS67 coins as before I submitted for re-grade.

More significant ..... PCGS updated my Registry Set with the new serial number ...... so they unilaterally made the move to exchange one coin for another at re-grade.

Great question .....

coinsrfun, I agree with you, but unfortunately its the way the system works. They're more picky with handing out upgrades when the value difference is high.
