IMO, I think we are a few years out, if ever, of getting rid of the penny. It is a hedge against inflation, and is pretty useful. Plus, I search them. So you cant get rid of it =)

If this would actually happen, I would say congratulations. It does not help the issue down here. We have still not learned from you that the best way to get the dollar coins to circulate is to eliminate the dollar note.

They can take everything less than a quarter as far as I'm concerned. They are all just steel junk coins. No intrinsic value, no purchasing power. It bothers me to this day that the dime is smaller than the nickel and has a higher face value. When money was real, and made out of silver, it made sense. Now it's just a reminder that the government left you the denomination, but removed the value.

Well I was serious about getting rid of the senate - it's a country club for the richest welfare recipients in the country. I'd rather have a 1 cent piece made of recycled plastic - at least is has some worth and someone actually had to do something to make it.

The senate IS the negative value penny.

They complain about the penny costing 100's of millions to mint and distribute. I vote we recoup our costs by eliminating the non-elected senate and keeping the penny instead.

anyone pro-democratically-elected-senate, pro-penny, or pro-senate-abolishment is alright in my books :)

Im in total agreement in eliminating the senate. Good god there is 105 of them!
The only high level governing body in which the elected party can stack it to their liking and that can consist of retired NHL players, old TV journalists, olympic gold metal winners, retired Armed forces personel..you know..the types that have extensive political experiance.
They have been talking about senate reform for more than 100 years, but they think the bill would never pass the senates approval. How do you pronounce 'conflict of interest'?

Well! Our tax dollars have to go to something useful like a senate now don't they! Would't be like the government to do something like spending less!

I'm pro-penny. Maybe Australia got it right somehow, but I fear a larger gap between the rich and the poor might develop if we chuck the penny. I'm gonna start hoarding hockey pucks. :P

^^^ They have a value. The little 1 and 5 signify it - go ahead and take a look and you'll see the numbers. Libertad isn't going to be happy with your "version" of the nickel though. =P At least?!? So what, a dollar isn't really worth much - guess that can go as well?!? Save them up and whatever else you think is worthless and every few months give them to charity - someone will find a purpose for them I assure you.

If you spend an hour counting up and rolling 1000 cents, you will have $10, and you've already earned this money, so basically you have gained $0. You're better off to flush them down the toilet and put in an extra hour at work. I'm not saying this is how it should be, but it's how it is.

I predict the Penny will last longer than the Canadian Senate.
