I hate the thought of doing that to a nice real classic coin. I'm always annoyed by holes in coins but that's beside the point. If I was sure it's a fake, I probably still wouldn't do it. I could spend a few bucks (I'm guessing) on stamps and salvage maybe $10. I think keeping it around to remind myself not to be dumb might be worth more than $10. Report this Post to the Staff

Yeah, definitely make sure it's fake first. TDColl is very knowlegable about Trade dollars, so his concern is valid, but we can only tell so much by looking at a picture. delaner Pillar of the Community United States 870 Posts	Posted 05/30/2010 2:03 pm That's what I was thinking, TD... - though prfiddle, I equally liked your idea of melting it, if you send stuff off to melt often, may not be bad. Though if you have an interest in it, keeping it and comparing it with a genuine as TD did and spreading knowledge with people is a great use as well! Unless someone suddenly chimes in with an solid evidence of it being fake you won't know for sure. Given the value of a Trade dollar I think it is worth paying for a TPG to look at it. SIRFORDSTER New Member United States 47 Posts	Posted 06/04/2010 12:29 am I have a 1877 trade that is fake that looks just like that. the reason I know its fake is that when you look at the obverse and flip it from top to bottom the eagle on the back is upside down.It should be right side up.
