Hey I've always collected coins from other countries as a hobby. I recently went through my money box and found a coin I had forgotton about. It's a 1956 Australian Shilling with a rams head on the reverse. Unfortunately this coin is very dirty and has some sort green rust like stuff on it. I am aware cleaning reduces value and I was wondering how much its worth and also if its possible to clean it a bit just so it doesn't look so grubby.

Thanks
Dani

I would give BadThad's Verdi-Care a try.

Hi Diva
your coin is worth about $2.50 for a VG one up to about $355 for a Gem one. I would try to avoid cleaning it however one way of cleaning I have been told is just with warm soapy water and a light rub with a soft cloth.

What does VG and Gem mean?

I'm a little hesitant to clean it myself now, knowing my luck i'll prob ruin it :|

I'm starting to collect 5, 10,20 and 50 cents coins are there albums which have sleeves or whatever they're called to hold each different size coin? or is it just one size fits all kind of thing + where can I purchase them.

Cheers
Dani

Hi Dani
VG and Gem are grades of coins. VG stands for Very Good (which is a little misleading as these coins are generally anything but in Very Good condition). Gem is short for Gem Uncirculated which means the coin is in exceptional condition and almost faultless. For further reading on grades of coins this is good place look it explains it well https://goccf.com/t/253

In regard to the sleeves yes you can buy all different size sleeves that cater for all the different sized coins
