This coin belongs to our member sn31. She sent it to me to post for you folks and your high quality opinions. The rim/edge seems extremely high on both the Obverse and the Reverse. I thought at first that the rim had been added for perhaps a charm or necklace but, I can't find any indication of that being done. Can someone identify if this is an error for sn31. She appreciates it!

Hi sn31 and dsking
How does the coin compare to another cent for size, and weight ?
and can we get a pic of a section of the rim edge ?

The letters ROLL UP the sides of the coin. The weight is slightly more. Here's a larger image without being in the 2x2 and a side view alongside a newer coin (should have used a copper one). What do you think? I can't find (using loupe) where the rim edge has been joined in any way. Although I too see a "pounding" type of indent. This "pounding" is on the entire rim. The edge is equal width throughout the circumference. If the rim had been added then the letters would not roll up.

Wow!! Great picture of a "spooned" coin. If you tap on the edge of any coin long enough, it will do exactly what you show, it rolls over the edge. Keep this up long enough and drill out the center of the coin and you have made a ring. Thanks for the great pics!!

sn31...it may just feel heavier to me because it is awkward, if that makes sense. I'll try to take it to Greg and have him weigh it for us. Becky's observations do make sense to me though. At one time I had a charm bracelet with coins on it and the edges looked very similar to yours.
I had to take it out of it's 2x2 to get a better picture...I hope that was ok with you.

Hi Debbie
Becky is correct, that is why I wanted to see the edge,, I do not have any spooned Lincolns but I have a few Silver quater ones.
