What are your feelings on the mintage (in terms of number of coins minted) of 2010 proof American Buffalo coins? I have a feeling they are going to mint a lot of these coins, because last year's number was not a very large number and 2008 was even lower. I have a feeling the US mint is going to produce >50,000 this year. If that is the case there may not be a point in ordering the coin. What do you think?

I think that could go either way really......only time will tell on those mintage numbers......Gold is so high right now, that this may impair some sales because it's so expensive and not cheap too.

I bought two of the first issue of these Buffalo's (2006)...and it turned out that the next year, and the next year were much lower mintages.....but did it really matter that much in price ?.....I don't think it did or still does, but I'm not sure.

I also knew that I could not afford to buy each year of these issues....nor the "fractionals"....I just wanted the "Inaugural" year for my collection, and am glad I purchased them.
I don't think anyone should buy these with "investment" in their minds.....moreso for the numismatic beauty of them.... However, I know that we all want to buy something for a low price, and then enjoy watching it climb in value through the years ! ....

(Nice avatar by the way ! ) ....

Thanks I like you avatar too.

I have been spending so much on "investing" I think I will skip this year.

"Investing" is a dangerous game with coins IMO.
Inevitably, the "Gold Bubble" that everyone is seeing and jumping up and down about, will eventually burst, and then it will be much cheaper to buy....."buying" right now when it's "high" would be fairly risky for a "short term" gain I think.....but this isn't a game that I partake in so.....

The only "investment" that I "do" partake in....is very very lighthearted really. Just in the sense that 35 years from now when I'm in my 70's, I'd like to think that I'd have some coins, or a collection as a whole, with enough of a gratifying value....that they might supplement my income for a time....or pay for an emergency.... buy a new truck....pay for prescription drugs (LoL) ...or take a lifelong wanted trip somewhere.....or something like that kind of stuff.
Ideally, I'd like to NEVER sell a coin, and just hand my collection down to loved ones. (So far, I've never had to sell a coin....knock on wood !) ..

I love these gold buffaloes, and have one proof of each year so far, and one MS early 09 and a 2007 copy, LOL

The proofs are far more beautiful than the bullion runs and will hold value better than gold bullion coins IF gold ever does drop in price. but in 8-10 years now, the greatest yearly adjustment in AU has been about ten percent, while overall it just keeps climbing - or the dollar by comparison keeps falling.

So I see these as both valuable investments AND numismatic pleasure.
