The notes below are probably worth less today than they were two years ago, (or hopefully two years from now). Wow, this is even better. 1907 Ten Dollar of Gold coin is equal to $ 400.- to $ 850.- now a day.
No Zeewool, for somebody who has the money, that is what you suggest. But for people who is desperate, the coin collection can be very devastated.
A year ago, before I know this forum, I need cash. I showed hundreds of big Silver Netherlands 2 1/2 Gulden, as big as Silver Dollar, to a coin dealer. He only offered me $ 1.- a piece. I told him that I wasn't that desperate. I live among retirements homes. Probably the biggest in Southern California. It was sad watching them lining up selling their Silver and Gold for low price, since they have no choice.
I learn fast, I will sell before I get to that situation.

Yes Sam, $1 each for 2 1/2 Gulden would be a terrible price (for you). The 1921-1945 2 1/2 Gulden coin contained 18 grams of silver, and the 1954-1967 coin contained 10.8 grams of silver, so the silver value of either coin would be worth many times the offer of $1.

zeewool, I try to calculate those coins value since the silver price keep going up. I know, I can calculate US coins with http://www.silverrecyclers.com/Calc...culator.aspx. But they don't have other country, especially The Netherlands. Do you know any other website? If you do, please let me know. The way you spell you nickname, and your knowledge regarding these coins, I suspect you are Dutch. Am I right Meneer? |

I do not know about websites of such things Sam. I have interest in world coins, but really very little knowledge. Depending on the year and condition of your Gulden, collector value is probably no more than the value of the silver weight, maybe even less, and if the day comes that you do wish to sell, I might think that selling per silver weight might net you more money than as collector coins (especially since you have so many, they may be difficult and time consuming to sell one by one to collectors). Where to sell to collectors? I have no idea other than ebay. Where to sell as silver bullion? Again, I have no knowledge of such things. I see on TV that there are companies that make a business from gold and silver investments. Possibly one of these companies might be interested or give a person some ideas. No Sam, I am not Dutch, and that 'is' my name phonetically retrograde. I did look at the link that you provided, and I can tell you this, (but you probably already know) the total silver weight of 2 1/2 Gulden in (troy ounces) is: 1840-1919-----0.7595 1921-1945-----0.5787 1954-1967-----0.3472 Although I realize that the topic has evolved, this is really not the proper forum to be speaking of Gulden or silver, so I will make no further posts here. I just joined the forum and this is the only paper I own.  I thought it was sort of nice and had hoped it was worth more than I have learned from this thread. I really like that $10 Gold  |
