I came across this Mercury IV medal while prowling through my bag of childhood coins ....

Appears to be a copper alloy, has a reeded edge and diameter is just over 1" at 26.00mm.

My dad was on the launch. Well, not ON it. On the launch crew. Titans, Minutemen, clear through the Space Shuttle, he had all the medals and pins.

Thanks IBGolden for the link ...... it was a great read about blowing the hatch early.

That said ..... please allow me to clarify the question of this post ....

Does anybody have the story/history about how this particular medal came into being to commemorate the Mercury IV mission?

Not the mission itself ..... but the medal shown in the photos above.
