I recently acquired this 1980 Israeli mint set. They are in this hard plastic case (picture included) but I store/display all of my other coins in 2x2s (picture also included). I think I do a pretty good job using the 2x2s so I was wondering how you all might choose to display these coins. Do I 'destroy' some intrinsic value by removing them from the mint case.

Whatever you do, do not remove them.

so I really hate to show my ignorance but why is removing them a bad thing. Can someone give me some specifics on that? It is probably a really rookie question but if I handle them carefully and place them in 2 x 2s, how am I ruining them. I am assuming that some how taking them out of the case 'hurts' the coin.

Well, some people are big on "presentation". It's the same as whether or not to pop the coin out of a slab. If you think you'll try to move it on (out) to somebody else keep it in the case. If it's going to be a part of your collection treat it as other coins in your collection, i.e. put them in 2x2's. Just make sure you handle the coins with proper care if they're proofs or BUs.

I would be willing to pay more if they were in the holder, than if they were taken out.

For this set I would also agree that the holder is a very large part of any future value.

It's kinda like building a house. If you think you're going to grow old in it you build it to your own specs - what is important to you! If you consider it a transitional house and you're planning to move up (or down) in a few years then you build what is considered "conventionally important", like a dozen full bathrooms and such.

Thank you everyone. I got the answer to my original question and that was do I ruin some value by removing them. You all have made it pretty clear even for my thickness that the answer is yes I will. However, since I collect for the fun of collecting (building my house to my specs) I think I have my decision. I may look for a way to get these into my binder and still leave them in this case but if not... I may be throwing money away here but the future resale value means very little to me. And maybe that is the difference between collecting dark side common vs. US silver. Heck, I'm facing this same dilemma as I reevaluate my stamp collecting. I have hundreds in catalog value but no one wants them for even face value. I'm not so sure that I'm not going to find that same issue 20 years from now with these or any of my coins.
