the other day I went to the coin shop to buy a 1909-present Lincoln Cent set. I am only missing the keys: 09s, 09svdb, 14-d, 22-dweak...

so logically, I opt for the album with no proofs. I didnt buy it, because I see so many of you on here with albums with the proofs. it does look very nice with the proofs. I asked my dealear what he thought about the album with proofs and he said that it was a bad idea. mainly because the breaking open the proof sets would devalue the set, then what". well, I dont like confrontation, so I didnt push my opinion.

i saw a proof cent book they had with singles and most I can get for $1.00.

if I do do the album with proofs, I wanted to be able to break open the least amount of sets as I could.

what do you guys prefer and what do you think I should do?

i plan on buying single proof cents from CCF members if at all possible. so feel free to hit me up via email.

FYI, I own NO proof cents. so this task might cost me a pretty penny.. haha no pun intended. maybe it wont?

I would go with proofs, will look much better and you will have more fun working on it.

With proofs is the way I went. Like you said most can be purchased for a dollar or less. Anytime I need a proof for my Danscos, I either look for singles or buy a proof set specifically to bust open. When I did my silver State Quarter dansco, I couldn't bring my self to bust open any of my Silver proof sets from my collection. So I put it together with singles or bought quarter proof sets just to bust open.

I did the proofs also, quite a hefty load when it's complete.

I have a 2000 and a 2003 proof cent I could send your way. Do you happen to have a 2010 p or d dime?

I'm not positive, but I think the proof holes in the Dansco are only for the 1975-S and later coins. You can put proof coins in the earlier slots, but there is not an extra slot for proof coins for the earlier dates.

hmm.. nice. nice.. too bad they dont make the slots for them pre74...

i read on your other thread about focusing on 1 set.. I'm O.C.D.. and get side tracked a lot. I was doing the pre64 quarters for a while. and pennies would go better with my budget the nicer the coin gets, compared to the quarter, which is a little much right now. I can only afford g-XF if I'm lucky..

Yeah well I ain't doing so good focusing right now. At the moment I'm working on my Lincolns, my Walkers, My Roosevelt's, Kennedy's, Wsh. Quarters and proof Franklin's. It does get easier though on the moderns once you get them completed, then you just have to worry about keeping them up to date, which I thought I would never see a 2009 dime. Now I have those and cant find the 2010's!

I dont like proofs(all my danscos are non-proofs), to me coin collecting is a hunt for coins. The biz strikes are out there can you find them? Every one has proof's for sale and the only way to get them was to buy them from the mint. They are cheap because no demand. Biz strike coins have history! Proofs have a min or two of history going from the celo to the book. JMO...

i am not crazy about the proof in the book either. My dansco is with proofs b.c I purchased it off a ccf member here, and it had coins in it. I dont like the fact that it has the 22 no D in the dansco either. That to me it is a penny that was struck with a worn out die that cost a lot of money that I dont want to spend. but I also dont want a hole there so I will probably get a weak d and stick it in there.i guess thats my 2 cents
