Today, I went to My first coin show.
The show I went to was in Allentown Pa.
The show was probably 5x the size I thought it was going to be.
I recognized some of the vendors from local Flea markets.
Some of those guys, I have figured out that they are weasels and to stay away. But, I did chat with loads of dealers just itching to talk about just about anything, and help educate a novice like me.
I bought two pieces from the same dealer because he helped me out the most.
I'm still getting used to the lack of haggling within this particular hobby. Most of the dealers run smack on with gray sheet and don't deviate. some use "bid" price from the graysheet and give an extra buck or two off if asked. (it's not in me not to ask)
I spent right about 3 hours at the show, and that was just looking superficially at most thing that were there.
With everything that was there, it was very overwhelming. I need to gain a bit more focus on what I am looking for when I go into a show.
Wanting to look at everything and wanting a bit of it all just can't work.
Today, I decided to focus on filling in a few spots in my type set. (that still doesn't help the focal point though) I decided that an 1859
IHC was a good place to start, then I saw a nice 3 cent silver and a 1/2 dime that looked nice and that hit my focus for the day.
Just to add more of the plate, I got a few more dansco books for 10.00 each...now I have 4 more sets to compile. (Morgan, peace, franklin, and walking half)
I had a much better day than I thought I would. It was a much better show than I thought it was going to be.
I can't wait till I can go to another show.
