Funny, I read y'all in stride and didn't notice until you pointed it out!

I agree that the answer lies in between. We'll either luck into some early clues, or have a lot of currencies to rule out early.

Either way, an interesting twist on the game, we'll see how it plays out. We now have several variations to choose from for future games, ranging from fun (most of all of them) to brain-freeze (xshift's).

With all of this concern over the number of permutations I sat down and put together a quick macros to make a random guess of 6 numbers from 1 to 171.

Then I added one to check my guesses. It only checks for inclusion, not order.

On the first attempt it took me 28 guesses to get it down to 30 currencies (4x 1 right, 1x 2 right).

The second attempt I went more random and completed it in just 17 guesses (same results as first attempt).

Even at 28 guesses, 6 people playing, add in freebies, that is only four 12 hour shifts. It will be done by Saturday.

rikcando,
Interesting simulations. Just to be clear, I was not complaining - I'd be happy with a contest with a quadrillion permutations - a few zero guesses cuts it down pretty quick. I think this is a pretty interesting variation.

Oh, I didn't think you were complaining. Simply mathematically curious. I get that way all the time, sometime to the point of obsession. It can be a dangerous thing to your state of mind, so I just wanted to help relieve some of the pressure. And I bet there was several others out there just reading and not posting with similar thoughts.

I just finished going through a roll of 2008's and 2009's picking out the best ones for the prize. The 2009 zinc core penny is simply the second one from the roll as I am not ready to take them all out now, and the one on the end had a faint toning. I'll post them as soon as I shrink them enough to upload.

Wow, they've had me down on the plant floor working today. Almost missed the 8am start time.
I have noticed that there are 3 currencies listed that are now 'expired'. There will be an additional 3 free guesses for disclosing an expired currency. These must be posted as expired, not fictional. You may not make a guess for both during the game. One or the other.

There are a total of 175 in the list. Four (4) are fictional and three (3) are expired. None of these will be used, leaving a total of 168 actual currencies to choose from.

Good luck every one.

I was wondering if you were excluding expired currencies to get to 171.

Let's see if we can go ahead and get rid of 6:

AUD, CAD, EUR, GBP, NZD, USD

WSD is a fictional currency

Then, let's see if we can get rid of 6 more:

BOB, CDF, GGP, IQD, LVL, PEN
