Basic Rules:
For this game I have decided to select only 6 currencies. Trying to keep track of 10 or more can become a bit daunting. Some of us (and I include myself) cannot even count to 10, let alone 12, on a regular basis, as has been seen in previous games.

Quote:

For those of you not familiar with the game:

Someone (in this case, me) selects 10 6 currencies and arranges them in a certain order (NO duplicates will be used!).

The players are to guess which currencies I've selected, and in what order they are in.

After each guess, you will get clues as to how many are correct in total, and how many are in the right position. I will not tell you which ones are correct, nor will I tell you which ones are in the correct position. It's up to you to figure out which ones!

Let's take a test run:
Let's say I've chosen: MXN, JPY, XAU, USD, CHF, GBP
And the first guess is: AUD, CAD, XAU, NZD, GBP, SEK
Then the clue would be 2 right in total (XAU and GBP) and 1 in the right position (XAU).

But, again, all you will get from me is 2 correct, 1 in the right position. You have to figure out which is correct and which is in the right place.

The Currencies:
Choosing the larger number also increases the number of possible answers, and previous games have had as many as 309 trillion choices. However impressed I am with the skills displayed here in solving the puzzle, I feel more people may play if the odds are better, and the currencies to find are lowered. I have elected to run this game with considerably less possibilities by using 175 currencies.

I am sure some of you are already wondering how I reached this number since there are only 171. Simple, I made some up. Four of the currencies symbols in the list are not real. The actual currency may be real, or not, but the symbol used to represent it is not.
e.g. Iceland Euro - ICE
The fictional currencies will not be selected for use within the correct answer.

Guesses:
This game will commence on Wednesday, June 16th, at approximately 8am EST when I post the list of the currencies to be used for this contest, and run until a correct answer is posted. Only those with more than 50 posts, or a site membership of over 3 months (Member since March 16, 2010 or prior), are invited to play.

Any player may post a guess provided it has been at least (12) twelve hours since their last guess, excluding free guesses (see below). Any guess made prior to the twelve hour lapse period will be ignored, again, free guesses excluded.

If you think that you have the correct answer prior to your 12 hour lapse period, and wish to try and end the game, you must state in your post that it is your final answer. Posting an incorrect 'final answer' will disqualify you from further play. It does not remove you from the standings in regard to the second place prize. You may still win the second prize even if you post an incorrect 'final answer'.

Free Guesses:
A free guess will be provided to the first person to identify each of the (4) fictional currencies. Only one free guess for identifying fictional currencies per person for the entire game. If you find more than one of them, please only post one. Any one openly identifying more than one fictional currency to the board will be disqualified from winning a prize.

Additionally, the first person to guess at least one currency in the right position each half day will receive one free guess. Half day being defined as 8am - 8pm, and 8pm-8am. This will help to make it fair for those night owls, and/or any international player. This free guess will be eliminated once a post is made with 2 or more currencies in the correct position.

Free guesses must be used within four hours of the original post that won the free guess.

Winning:
The first eligible player to post all (6) six currencies that I have selected in the correct order will win this game, and the first prize listed below.
The first eligible player to post all (6) six currencies that I have selected in any order will win the second prize listed below.
No player shall win both first and second prizes. Winning first prize will exclude you from second place standings. If no second place winner is found prior to the end of the game, or the second place winner becomes the first place winner, the person who has first posted the highest number of currencies without getting all 6 will be declared the second prize winner at the conclusion of the game. There is no prize for being the second person to post all 6 currencies**.

**If all 6 proper currencies are posted in any order other than the winning order by more than one person before I can respond, and the second place winner becomes the first place winner, then the second place prize would go to the player posting second prior to my response.

Prizes:
First Place: One unopened mint roll of Canadian (steel core) pennies. Winner may chose from either year of 2008 or 2009.
Second Prize: One 2008 mint state Canadian penny, one 2009 mint state Canadian steel core penny, and one 2009 mint state Canadian zinc core penny.

Prizes will be shipped within one week of contest close. Winners must provide a valid and complete address to which the prize is to be sent. I am not responsible for loss or damage done during shipping.

Any questions?

What if it is the same currency in the same position?

Only one guess per person for the entire game in regards to the fictional currencies. Should any player identify a real currency as a fictional currency, they will not receive another guess of this type. They may continue to play the game as usual.

The number of free guesses awarded for identifying false currencies shall be four, one per false currency.

I think I understand your question.

Since the currencies are not identified as to which is the correct one in the correct position, it would be counter productive for me to make any such limitation. If you know one currency and are quick enough to be the first to post, then you deserve and shall be given the free guess.

I have a question.

Is there a clock within the site to use as a reference?

I will receive emails whenever a post is made and I can use the times that they are received as the deciding factor, but I was hoping that there is one we can all use to determine 8pm and 8am half day starts.

I found it.

On further thought, NO guess that is an exact duplicate of a previous guess shall be awarded a free guess.
Only a unique guess may be awarded a free guess. No more than 4 currencies may be duplicated within a guess to qualify for a free guess.

::boggle::

ummm... ok so if guessing fictional currencies, is that guess included in your guess of the 6, or separately?

So, if somebody posts A, B, C, D, E ,F
and then somebody else posts F, E, C, D, B, A and C happens to be in the right place, both players would get a free guess.

BUT, if C & B are right on the second guess, then no more free guesses will be awarded from that point forward - right?

Guesses of fictional currencies are totally separate from the main flow of the game. The guess for fictional currencies should contain (but are not required to) the term 'fictional currency', and shall contain only one currency.

Two correct would receive a free guess if they are the first to post. Once a guess is made with 2 in the correct position, there will be no more free guess of this type. If the guess with 2 in the correct position is the first, they would receive the free guess.

So, if a player guesses A, B, C, D, E, F and than another player guesses Z, Y, C, X, W, V and C is in the right place, does the second player get a free guess?

Even though there may be less possible answers, my first inclination is that it will take a lot more guesses (worse odds) to get to the correct answer. Will be interesting to see.

Thanks for the new round rickando!

When I first read 175 currencies, I thought it was a typo. I agree with steve199 - this will take awhile.
