I usually just use a bubble padded mailer with Delivery Confirmation. But according to a few recent threads, I now have to use insurance no matter what?

You mean with the 'bay? I haven't heard that. It's usually an option I thought.

You're responsible for it if it's not received by the buyer. Paypal will make you refund the purchase price plus shipping.

I didn't think it was mandatory you actually purchased insurance though.

No, you do not have to use insurance on every item you sell. However, ebay no longer allows you as a seller to offer insurance as an add-on for an extra cost to shipping.

For me anything under a few hundred bucks, I just self insure. After a thousand plus mailings, nothings been lost.

The choice is yours ... what can you afford to lose. I have my own threshold based on the value of the item. I protect the coin between a cardboard sleeve placed in a bubble mailer and then use 3" transparent tape to seal the flap. I purchase delivery confirmation and only buy insurance if the item exceeds my comfort threshold.
