Georgioscoins Unfortunately that is a modern fake. It is essentially worthless. They have been around since the 1960s and come in 7 varieties. This one is fairly late in the series. The Straight J has been corrupted into an I and the superscript on the mint mark has been converted to a dollar sign. Some of the later issues have an even cruder head on the eagle and the feathering continues to deteriorate. It is an unbelievable replica copy.

These copies are reeded after they are struck using a ring die which is of course wrong. You can see the metal displaced by the action of the ring right at the edge of the coin. Originals were edged with an engrailed pattern on a two die edger.

I have never seen a coin of this type struck in anything but Copper nickel or other white metals - some made of steel and others made of nickel are magnetic BUT not all copies are magnetic.

It looked different when I compared it with other on ebay, kinda crude so I was 99% sure it was a fake but wanted to hear some thoughts from people who are familiar with this kind of coin. I just checked and it is not magnetic.
