Guys,
I don't really collect these, But my Daughter loves them. When you are looking at the edge lettering and it is right side up, what is the top of the coin, Obverse or Reverse? Or does it matter. I picked up 5 of the Franklin Pierce ones and on three of them, the letter has the obverse side on top and two of them have the reverse side on top..
I am kind of at the assumption that the edge letter is done after the minting process and the machine is taking them randomly from the feeders..

yes it is completely random which way the lettering will face... if it has no lettering is a different story though and can be very valuable...

Some collectors try to get one coin with lettering of each facing.
This kind of collecting is particularly popular in Belgium - but I don't know why.
