Do they make collecting the currency more desirable?
Does it increase value at all?

What I have heard is it doesn't really help value. I keep all the consecutive I get. The way I look at it, is it will have value in 50 years when those notes are still together.

When selling lots, it may help the turnover rate to have them sequential, but it's not necessary.

if your talking about consecutive notes today, they have no value. you can get them at the bank. if your talking saving 50 consecutive notes for 50 years, they might have a premium.

Straps of newer consecutive serial numbers seem to draw a premium from buyers looking to pluck out "fancy" serial numbers. So one strap may sell for a good deal more than the next simply because of the serial number range. What makes this particularly unpredictable is the loose definition of "fancy".

With older or rarer notes sellers always try to get a premium for even two graded consecutive serial numbers together. But I don't know how often they obtain it. Sure having two consecutive notes is a rarer thing but that doubles the cost of ownership which limits the number buyers. When it comes to the old and the rare I think most would rather have two different things instead of consecutive serial numbers.

For common notes, even some older notes like SC's there is no premium for consecutive serial numbers and in fact consecutive numbers is more or less buying/selling in bulk and becomes cheaper than what you might pay if you bought the notes individually.

Mrwisker, if you are speaking of modern notes, it probably doesn't add to the value at all, but if you are talking about older notes, it most definitely does add significantly, many times tripling or quadrupling depending on the country and variety.

For instance, say you have ten current uncirculated Egyptian 1 pound notes in consecutive order....value is ten pounds.

If you have a 1 pound note in uncirculated condition from 1899 with the Rowlett signature, the value is about $6,000. If you have three of them in consecutive order, the value is nearer $45,000.

In addition, I hear that uncut sheets go for lots more than if they were cut up into bills. Truth to this?

I am totally ignorant of uncut sheets, but I would imagine if things like this exist, they would carry premiums. What countries are you referring to?
