I just got this rather nice, small 2 Annas coin today. Please pardon the horribly esoteric nature of this question, but I need some help from a knowledgeable collector. According to my krause there are 4 main varieties of this coin (most of which are based upon location of minting). They are KM # 460.1 - KM # 460.4.
The first has a dot after the date 1841. Mine does not have this, so this variety cannot be the one.
The second has the designer's initials, W. W., on the truncation of the neck. No other information setting it apart is given, yet it is stated to be from Calcutta.
The third has the designer's initials, W. W., on the truncation of the neck. No other information setting it apart is given, yet it is stated to be from Bombay.
The fourth has the designer's initials, W. W., and an incuse "S" on the truncation of the neck. No other information is given that would make it stand out. This one with the incuse "S" is from Madras. Mine does not have this feature either, so this also cannot be my coin.
So what this all comes down to is this: What is the difference between the 2nd and 3rd varieties (KM # 460.2 & KM # 460.3 respectively)? They seem to be identified as having the same features, yet they are supposedly from different mints.
Any help with this very specialized question would be VERY appreciated! Thanks!
