With all the insanity of the 2009 Lincoln Cent Rolls on the first
day of issue with first day Postal cancellations last year. And all of the insane prices on ebay
It was a very exciting thing to watch. When the Log Cabin rolls were at moon money on ebay.
My son found 11 rolls at the corner
Walgreens. Was very cool.
I thought it would be cool to have a roll of coin post mark canceled before the first day of issue. When an opportunity
came on the 2010 Lincolns I did just that. Got two rolls out of puerto Rico three weeks before the Official release
On Feb. 1st 2010 I took the one roll I had not cracked open
and took it to a small local Post Office in Comstock Mi. and bought and Olympics stamp
and put it on the roll and had the nice lady hand cancel it.
(Was watching a lot of the Olympics at the time)

The official launch occurred on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 9:30 AM Central Time
at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois.

Just ran across this in the safe today. almost forgot about it.
Just wanted to share a weird numismatic idea I had earlier this year.
If you have had a weird numismatic experience or Idea
Please feel free to share.

Terry

I think it was a good idea. The decent profit on selling modern stamped/cancelled rolls came and went with the Log Cabin. No more $80-100 for a roll of cents.

I remember watching that insanity take hold with the Log Cabin
release. I watched a case of them go for a grand. It was unreal.
When people were giving a ton of money still for a roll.
My son and his girlfriend ran an errand for her mother
to the local Walgreens and he received one in change.
He asked the teller if he could talk to the manager.
The teller asked if everything was O.K. Kind of worried.
He said everything was fine and explained to her that this
was one of the new Lincoln Cents. The manager came out
and My son asked her if she might have more of these Cents
in the back. She told him yes and he was welcome
to as many as he wanted. Ended up that she had a total of 11 rolls
He bought them all. He called me as soon as he got out of the store.
It was a very exciting night for him. When he returned home later
that night we cracked open a roll to check them out, He asked why don't we sell them on ebay?
I told him for $5.51 we have a great story and memory
to share. Why would you want to sell that?
It was fun.
Every one of the rolls are still in the safe with a note of how they were acquired.
He is not that much into coin collecting (Yet). Mostly Car, Trucks and Girls
He was just looking out for the old man who is a Coin Nut.
He thought the early post marking of a roll before the official release was very interesting.
And was very excited to see the 2010 Lincolns before the
Official release and before anyone else around here saw one. Now it has gone back into the safe.
With a note of how it all happened. And one day I might be able
to share it with my grand kids after my son settles down.
