Does anyone know how extensive the coverage is of the Canadian large Victorian cents in the new Charlton Canadian Coins 2011 65th edition compared to the book "Some Die Varieties of the Canadian Large Cents 2nd edition"?

In other words do I need both, or is the 65th edition more up-to-date so to speak and re-covering much of the same material.

I'm not asking you to put either one down, as I'm sure both are great, I just want to know if one is enough for now. Just in your opinion. Thanks!

The new 2011 65Th edition by Charlton Press is well worth getting in the back are some varieties that were unknown to many collectors as well as up to date pricing.

The Charlton reprint of the original Griffin 1992 text has a verbal description of all the Large Cent varieties 1858-1920 for Canada and the Eastern Provinces that Jack found in his years of work. The reprint has photos for about 15-20% of the coins listed, but there are quite a number of photo/description mismatches, so you must be careful. The new 2011 annual Charlton guide has about 80 popular 1858-1901 Victoria Large Cent varieties with scarcity noted and a retail pricing guide based upon VF-20 coins and extrapolated from there. You could expect that many of the coins listed in the 2011 guide to be listed in Trends at some time in the future, as well as noted on TPG slabs .. .but that's not for certain. The new photos in the 65th edition are correctly matched with the description, but do not refer back to the Griffin numbers. Some are, however, referenced to new Turner numbers. Both are money well spent.

Unless you are a serious variety collector, the 65th edition should be fine.

Thanks for the replies, I suspected as much. I really enjoy the varieties on the Vickies, so I guess I will start with the 65th first. The Charlton reprint is on sale right now on e-bay so I was tempted...
