I am thinking about trying to do a Kennedy set from cirulated bankrolls (just doing P&D, no proofs). I know I will have to purchase some of the coins individually (especially the silver ones, although I do have a fair amount of them already). I was wondering if people usually have good luck with roll hunting the various dates or if it is pretty tough to find a good mix and get a fairly complete set. I know it is the luck of the draw, but I was curious as to people's experiences. Thanks!

Halves are a lot of fun to search. I'd say go for it. Depending on your luck, you may even be able to find some of the silver years from the rolls as well as the odd proof coin or NIFC. The tough ones are the 87P and 87D.

I filled the entire set from rolls with the exception of the 1970D, which I finally bought. 90% of the set was done with 1 box, though I upgraded some of the coins at a later time.

I had to buy the 87 ones and I still don't have the 70D (blanked off in the Whitman folder). Anything after 2000 is also pretty tough. The rest should come pretty easy though.

Thanks for the input. I actually went to my local Chase bank and they said they do not have (and don't get) rolls of half-dollars. Do you normally have to have your bank order them or do most of you find banks that have them available? I am assuming if you order them you must buy the entire box? I could also check my credit union, but I figured they wouldn't have them.

I filled my folder rather quickly, even the 70 D, all I did was hit every bank on the strip. 'Tis entirely possible to find everything from single halves to full boxes. You don't have to have accounts, although you may be rejected at times. I think all banks are aware of the fact that people are searching (for silver). I filled my folder within just a month or two, even found an 1874 Barber half my first week of roll hunting.

I only have luck ordering them from big banks like bank of America or wells fargo. A box has $500.00 in it and a bag has $1,000.00. My local credit union would not order them because it cost them money.

It's not difficult to find a bank that will order boxes for you, even though you are not an account holder. I've done it.

There are two banks in my home town that I deal with. They will order halves for me, but since I am a broke college student I have to buy four or five rolls at a time. After 12 rolls I'm will on my way. Lucked up and found a few 40% silvers the other day.

Easily doable
I am deep into this set and am only missing about 6 coins from 64-03
never did a box either
with a box I'm sure I'd be done
Fun to do tho

I have almost completed a set of business-strike Kennedys only from bank rolls. I am still missing the 1987-P and D however, and I did need to buy the 1970-D as well as all the Kennedys 2006 and later.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I tried a few more bank and credit unions and had no luck. Chase said they could order them and I could buy as many (or as few) as I wanted and they would just return the rest. I guess that will be the route I will take. I was hoping to find a place that already had them so I could just buy 3-4 rolls every few weeks or so, but I guess ordering is my best and possibly only bet at this point.
