Where do you store your coins and PM's for security? Just curious, which is better, a home safe or bank safe deposit box? Thanks, ffd When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

I don't lock them away I like looking at them too much.
I think that my dog will take care of anyone trying to steal them

Home Safe. I keep it on the top floor of my house. 1st Security Measure: The safe weighs about 350 pounds full. 2nd Security Measure: The stairs going to the top floor only can support about 250 pounds 3rd Security Measure: When safe and burglar combine, they will probably fall through the stairs and end up with the safe on top of the burglar. 4th Security Measure: As the burglar is pinned and defenseless my pet parrot will attack and kill him.

Safety deposit box is best because even if someone knows you collect coins they can't break into your house and steal them.

I have to say, coins92, you have it figured out perfectly. Do you mind my asking how the safe came to be upstairs or did you put it up there and then let the stairs get old?

Well when I dragged it up there, it wasn't full. Then I thought about moving it and realized that wouldn't be happening.

When I'm at home they stay in a locked closet. When I go on vacation it's into the SD box.

Pretty much all my stuff is in the SD. I have a few odds and ends lying around my photo area, and my restored date buffaloes, and my foreign, but overall, not much value at the house.

Yea I wouldn't keep silver or gold in a bank safety deposit box. Who knows if our wonderful gov't will decide to confiscate people's PM's in the future.

As long as the government has been printing unbacked money, I bet they don't even remember they used to make coins out of something that has value.

I decided against a home safe after weighing the pro's and cons' (no pun intended ! .. ie. " professional thieves" and " convicts") At a bank (S.D.B.), they will NEVER be stolen......yes never...it just ain't gonna happen despite how many movies one watches ! ... The bank is generally safe from floods. Or at least more likely safe than your house is anyway. The bank isn't going to burn down.....that's right.....there is NOT going to be a fire there with all of the sprinkler systems and such anyway...but......it ain't gonna happen ! .....at your "house" though.....fire is a REAL possibility at ANY TIME !~! At the bank, they're safe from a "home invasion". You know, the kind of break-in where they wait until you're home. Possibly hearing about the tens of thousands of dollars worth of valuable coins kept there (whether it's true or not). And they'll be MUCH MUCH LESS LIKELY TO put you and/or your family at gunpoint and make you go to the bank to get them.......possible ? ....yes.......likely ? .....I really doubt it ! Pulling off that kind of caper is just so low on the "odds" sheet......I ain't worried about it at all ! And last but not least....there is a HUGE humidity factor, 365 days a year in my state (Kansas)....and, although there are measures one can take with a home safe, I prefer my S.D.B. in a climate controlled middle area of the bank. If you live in a "low crime area" ......which I don't......then a S.D.B. "might" be okay......but.....it's not my choice obviously !
