I read in a coin news magazine some years ago about a blink comparator microscope, which can be used for the detection of fake coins.
A blink comparator is used for astronomical research, is a very useful tool for examination of paired photographs for examining relative star movements over time.
I am just wondering why these types of tools are not generally marketed for use by numismatists. Are such instruments available? Surely, a numismatic investor, who may spend thousands on his collection could easily justify such a purchase, especially when such an individual would spend a great deal on coin security.
