Hello forum. Pleased to meet you. First off I'd start by saying I'm not a coin collector, so I don't know the etiquette of discussing acquiring fake coins on the forum. But....

I'm trying to find two 1860 Indian Head penny replicas in mint shiny condition. They are to be inlaid in the handles of a Colt revolver replica. 1860 because that's the model and year of conception of the gun. I need one 1860 for one side, the other can be any year of the same variation because only the back will be showing.

I'd like to find replicas because I want them to look mint, and genuine coins, even worn command good money.
So if <<request for B/S/T removed>> or knows where to get them being sold as replicas please let me know. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Staff note: It is okay to ask where to get something, but you cannot participate in Buy/Sell/Trade until the requirements are met.

Welcome to the forum.

Was it normal for coins to be inlaid into the handle back when they were originally made?

No, But my grips are broken. I'm carving a new set. People use all kinds of woods and materials when making they're own grips. Doesn't seem to be any standard. I haven't seen it done yet, so I thought it'd be unique.

Thank's didn't see that one. I think they'll do. There's another with copy stamped on the opposite side, so I'll have a clean side of each. Cool. thanks

Probably a stock photo, so you can't depend on where it will be stamped, or even that it will be stamped at all. Don't ask me how I know this.

Yes those Chinese fakes are doing much damage to the hobby.
As ebay does good money with them they don't care if the coins are really marked as copies.

I agree, again...

If the people who receive the coins differently than described, but don't complain to ebay on each specific instance, ebay can't do anything about it. And there HAVE been seller ID's who have been removed from ebay for shipping unmarked copies and fakes.

Pending on how much you plan on using that gun you may be in for a surprize. If any inlaid coin you put there is Copper, remember your hands contain oils and ACIDS. And guess what gun power is made from. There is an abundance of Sulfur in gunpowder and that with moisture produces an Acid that will turn your coins green. And too if the coin is Brass or Bronze, those too are a Copper based substance.
Copper around gun powder is not to smart.

The coin will be recessed about 1/32 of an inch. Then lacquered over.

What's not smart about gun powder and copper?

Just carl, it can't be too bad to have copper and gunpowder together can it? Most cartridges are brass casings. Or are you referring to the coin getting scratched by the dust?

nod2003, I think Carl is referring to the sulfur in gunpowder and how it will react with the copper. If he's not, I hope he will correct me while I slink back over to my corner of the internet.
