Im not even very familiar with that series, but just the presentation of that photo screams to me that I would be getting something that looked significantly different. Personally Id rather have a seller have a photo that under plays the coin that makes it look better than it really is

I have bought ten or so St Gaudens from them. I send them all my raw coins to be grades by PCGS or NGC. Four have come back as cleaned. Being a big seller I would think they have someone qualified in house to spot cleaned coins. So I figure they do this on purpose. I don't buy from them anymore.

I won't buy from them due to their reputation. Honestly people, if you want a BU coin in a PCGS or NGC holder, just buy one......don't risk buying a raw and getting it back as cleaned/...

Their photos are "juiced" for sure, run through contrast enhancement, sharpened in certain areas, and color saturation boosted. I've purchased a few 2¢ varieties knowing this and feel they were okay for what I paid, and so I kept them. Most coins I see look or have the appearance to me of being cleaned and retuned. Evidenced by what many have posted earlier in this thread about sending in coins they won from them to a TPG and having them graded as detail cleaned coins. Doesn't surprise me in the least. I would not say they scam people on ebay but their practice of making an ugly coin into a blazing gem is dishonest and unethical. Bid on coins from them knowing they are most likely cleaned and at least a solid grade if not details grade only - you will do okay once in awhile. I would not buy Proof coins from the 1800-early 1900's from them, nor would I buy any semi-key or key dates from them, these are most likely crack outs that have been cleaned and retoned, IMO.

I have purchased about a dozen raw coins from GSC and have had them professionally graded. So far, not one has been graded the way GSC graded it. Many aren't even close. I know they have 'experts' on board (or so I've been told), but where are they? For example, I bought a 'Gem BU Red" 1909 VDB Lincoln. I expected it to grade out at about MS65 Red. NGC graded it 'Unc details, altered color'. Not good. A 1944 'Lustrous Gem BU Blazer' Walker came back AU58 from NGC. An 1897 S Morgan billed as a 'Gem BU++' coin came back only MS62, a far cry from MS65 or better. Before I bought these coins, I'd bought other coins from them that didn't measure up. It boggles my mind that buyers are buying their raw coins, and in some cases are spending several thousand dollars, and are simply accepting GSC's grading opinion. These same folks leave glowing feedback without getting those coins graded first! They're being duped in my humble opinion. Many perhaps don't get their coins graded at all. And many now own altered or overgraded coins--and are utterly clueless. The more savvy folks on ebay who leave neutral and negative feedback understand this. Most of GSC's customers do not. Most hobby experts advise against buying online and sight unseen, let's say, a raw 1880 CC Morgan 'Gem BU++ PL' for $900, but this is what customers of GSC do regularly. A gentleman just bought a $1500 1800 Draped Bust half that GSC graded as VF. Why do coin buyers do things like this? I don't get it. I have real reservations about the Great Southern Coins operation. I don't know what their qualifications are (not indicated on ebay). I feel badly for their customers who unsuspectingly leave glowing feedback. My advise to them (I'm in sync with the pros here) would be to buy only graded coins on ebay and elsewhere online, or to buy raw coins ONLY from thoroughly trustworthy sellers. Great Southern Coins (greatsoutherncoin on ebay) is NOT a trustworthy seller.

I recently purchased two coins from them - both were very attractive, but after analysis - they were both cleaned - they did however - refund my money with no hassles. On the other hand, I must admit some reluctance in going for 3 for 3.

I wish Great Southern coin had their own website I would totally go there rather than ebay! I hate ebay and hate PayPal. They rob all of us blind, We pay all higher prices due to their fees. PLEASE OPEN OWN WEBSITE GREAT SOUTHERN! I love your coins!

I found out the hard way.I waited to long to join a grading service and received cleaned, environmentally damaged and even counterfeit coins from GSC. It made me realize why their are graded coins now because of the dishonesty in coin collecting. I'll never buy a ungraded coin again!

Ive been buying GSC coins lately for the first time..I returned one of them no problem. The other 4 coins are very nice..Im waiting for some more . These are mostly Indian Head cents and mostly raw. They have a huge inventory which ceaselessly sells coins every day. Their ebay volume too date is almost 200k coin transactions sold and if u read their feedback it is almost perfect. Sending coins to PCGS is a crapshoot..i even returned a IHC I bought from Rick Snow because it came back..altered color UNC details.....Thats why Snow does photoseal..I will let u know when I get the rest of my GSC shipments in over the next week or two but so far I'm not complaining about their coins or service. And as far as the imagery goes..most images on ebay really look terrible but their coins stand out..you just have to read them correctly.
