Has anyone found a source that has production numbers for the Satin coins that come from the U.S. Mint sets since 2005? I have looked for hours and can't seem to find the mintage on these coins. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is what I have been able to find out about the Satin coin mintage; They have been produced from 2005 to present (not to be confused with the 98 Kennedy, Botanic Gardens nickle, etc.) They are only sold as an Uncirculated Mint Set from the U.S. Mint. Total production can be derived from the total number of said Mint Sets sold. All production coins from that specific year are featured in Satin finish. - Year
2005- Mintage
1,160,000- Issue Price
$16.95 - Coins

I have not been able to track down production numbers for 2009. The mint's website shows that they have been sold out so the total mintage should be available. If anyone has this information, it would be greatly appreciated if you would pass it on. Numbers for the 2010 are obviously forthcoming due to the fact that they are currently being sold through the Mint, and have only recently been made available for purchase. As you can see, these are amazingly low production numbers! I consider these major sleepers. These sets are selling at a slight premium on ebay (my major source for coins). The 05 and 06 sets are actually selling below the original purchase price from the mint. I find very little information on these. They are all but ignored. One of the major guide books makes no mention of them at all. Just thought I would share. It took me three days to compile this information.

Thanks for posting those elusive numbers. It is tough to find them all in one easy spot, great work there. Also remember that general circulation issues sometimes contain the satin finish as well, and they are a TOUGH SET to accumulate from pocket change. Especially nice are the Lincoln cents, but maybe it's because I know the only other place to find them is in the mint sets. Its also neat as well to get an occasional die crack or MAD, and even a few of my 2000 Wide AM are satiny as well. So keep your eye out in change for general circulation satin coins, it is neat to collect them just like their mint set cousins. Try and make a year set from circulation coins and you quickly understand how tough they are. Probably not much money in them, but it is fun looking.

With the 2010's the final mint st figures will tell you the satin finish totals for everything EXCEPT the quarters. For them you will also have to track down the figure for the $21.95 Satin finish quarter sets that the mint is also selling this year (and probably for the next nine years as well.)

Thanks, Conder. That's a new one to me. I wonder how long it will be before they release the official production numbers for this year?

As of July 18, sales for the 2010 set totaled 200,764. The sold-out 2009 set sales totaled 774,844 which should be very close to the final mintage number.

Legend, you used the term MAD. Never heard this one. What does it stand for? My favorite thing to look for in rolls are doubled dies. I have actually discovered 4 2009-P Lincoln Professional Life (LP3) doubled dies. No, really! http://www.doubleddie.com/90701.htmlSearch for Jerry Saville on this page. There are two stages of the WDDR-012 (A and C), the WDDR-020 and the WDDR-024. By far, that is the coolest experience I have had in coin collecting.

Thanks for the question. MAD is MisAlignedDie, where the coin is off kilter from center just a smidgen. CONECA is one superb site to oogle all the various coin mistakes that people pay small and large cash for. CONECA, is Combined Error..um....somethin, somethin, somethin. Never learned all of it, just the acronym, Lazy Me.

Conder, I looked over the Mint's website and didn't see a Satin quarter set. Their search engine doesn't work very well so I could have missed it. I DID see see an uncirculated quarter set but my impression was that they would be business strike coins. The mint set actually uses the word "satin", in the description of the mint set whereas the quarter set that I saw didn't. Here is the link to the quarter set that I found; http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...44&langId=-1The price on this one is $21.95. Please let me know if this is the set that you are referring to. I am very curious. I have really taken a liking to these coins. Jerry

Yes that is the satin finish set. The $9.95 set with the same coins is made using in their terms "circulating-quality coins". Those are the regular business strike coins. The Mint now uses the term "Uncirculated" to mean the satin finish coins.
They also have a three coin set for $13.95 that has the satin finish P&D and the proof for each design, so the sales records for those sets would also have to be tracked and added in to get the actual Satin finish mintage for the quarters this year and in the future.

I saw the difference too in the descriptions, but they aren't clear. In the mint sets they actually use the term "Satin", but not in the uncirculated quarters set. More of our hard-earned tax dollars at work.
