Just pulled this from a roll.

The rims seem awfully strong, though. If not, it is the worst Greaser I have ever seen.

Just read an article by Mike Diamond regarding Grease Filled Dies in Coin World It discussed ghost images created by pressure variations over the die. Could the long depression in the portrait be a ghost image of the memorial on the reverse?

Looks like a capped die to me, but I've been wrong before. I think it's really cool that you can make out the date, though.

It looks a late State brokage to me.
Nice find!

Struck through late stage capped die, there is no trace of the Memorial design so it is not a brockage. The cap has thinned out enough that the obverse die design is able to be transferred to the coin in a very weak manner.

After further review, I go back to my first answer - LOL!

I guess I need to dig out my error encyclopedia and study those two chapters again!

As others have remarked, this cent was struck through a late-stage die cap. It is therefore a generic capped die strike.
