What do you think a fair price would be for an 1899 Black Eagle FR-235 PMG63 CU block KA ?

Thanks, that's close to what I was thinking too. *edit* Well after 2 offers, a counter-offer, and a counter-counter-offer I just purchased my 3rd large sized note.

Collecting notes in this condition is always a smart idea, and is how most folks should and would if they could.

Yeah I have a whole 2 graded notes now, and you have seen both of them. Something tells me they may not be the last though. Just the last for a while :)

I definitely think that you are on the right track David. Uncirculated notes are in a class of their own and always will be. Or you could spend almost twice as much and end up with something like this. (Not too pretty, but only four known to exist of this variety). Often it is a hard choice between condition and rarity. I usually go with rarity because I figure that I can always get a nice note later, and I should get the rare note now, because the rare ones are drying up fast. Most folks do as you do though, and go for the nice ones, knowing that they will only appreciate in value over time. Rare notes are more of a gamble, they may stagnate or they may skyrocket, it is hard to tell.

I did notice that you tend to gravitate toward the stars. I looked at a few of those and decided to stay within my budget

Zee, the notes you have are in an elite class by themselves regardless of condition and collected by some savvy folks. Personally, I cannot venture into that arena as it is beyond my means. Yes those notes will be volatile as all it would take is for a large collection to hit the market all at once.
Peace

Actually David, I gravitate toward rarity rather than to stars. If the note just happens to be a star, so be it. I don't have stars for the sake of being stars though. Not all stars are rare. As far as black eagles stars go, these are the only two that I have, but there are several common ones that I may own later. (Gotta get the rare ones 'first'). Most folks would rather have a beauty like yours though, and I cannot argue with that.
