Hello, I have this simple rather new silver coin, a 1969 5 francs reading Republique Francaise on the front. My problem is that I cannot find any info on it. I cant find any on the internet to get a value...Nothing! I found other dates around it but not the 69. It cant be that rare. Can anyone enlighten me on this coin. I appreciate any info you can provide. Dave

Hi, The following is a short description of the coin: Composition: Silver 835/1000 12 grams 29 mm The designer of the coin was Louis-Oscar Roty On one side of the coins you have: LIBERTe eGALITe FRATERNITe; which means liberty, Equality and Fraternity. The following is a list of the year and number minted: 1959 4,048 1960 55,082,000 1961 15,630,000 1962 42,500,000 1963 37,936,000 1964 32,403,600 1965 5,156,000 1966 5,017,171 1967 722,305 1968 357,000 1969 504,050 You can find the coin easily in Europe but not in high grades. Your coin is worth between 4 and 10 dollars. You can find it in Europe for about 2.5 to 7 Euros. The coins that cost around 200 Dollars if they in the MS range is the 1959. This series is called Semeuse Here are some links that are in french but you can use google to help you translate: http://www.francecollection.net/index.php?p=achathttp://collectiondemonnaie.net/hede/entree.htmlJust let me know if you need more help. Enjoy your coin.

Hello, the coin is for lack of a better word perfect? I know that is a strong word but there are no scratches or dings, no wear to the high spots, just a real sharp, shiny clean like it was made yesterday coin. Is it still basically a scrapper? Thanks

Yay! I was in France in 1969 and I can remember spending them as current circulating coin, and it is a mighty fine design for a coin too!

Issuarian: As you can tell by Vgasca's very handy mintage numbers, 1969 is a pretty good year to have in high grade for this series. 1968 is the better year, but '69's good too. I wouldn't call what you have a scrapper, by any means: if as you say it's in perfect, mint condition, with no marks/fingerprints, etc, you have a coin that is certainly well worth more ethan its silver content. Silver value alone in these coins is around 5 or so bucks, 1/3rd of an ounce Actual Silver Weight. Don't sell it for bullion value! Cheers, SCS PS. This is a favorite design of mine; dates from before the turn of the century. It is said to have inspired the Walking Liberty half obverse in US coinage. Difference is, this lady's sowing seeds (into the wind, no less!).

Looks like there is no buyer for it... If I were missing this coin, I would be looking for the mint set which includes the rare 1 centime and high grade coins for all nominals at a better price.

True, no bidders. Someone MIGHT go for it late, but...
The mint sets ARE excellent, Maudry. I've rarely found flaws in coins from the French mint sets--except for the 1975 crowns, which seem to very often have turned pink! Have you noticed that?
